This week, Peter Deming, ASC began a month-long tenure of guest curating the ASC’s Instagram account, taking over for Rachel Morrison, ASC. She noted in her last post: “Passing the torch to the awesome and amazing Peter Deming. What a range [of work] we have to look forward to — from Lost Highway to My Cousin Vinny, Peter proves that good cinematography is in service of the story and one should never apply the same approach to everything.”

Deming’s credits include the feature films Mulholland Drive, Drag Me to Hell, The Cabin in the Woods, Oz the Great and Powerful and the series Twin Peaks: The Return (seen at top).

“Many, many thanks to Rachel for an amazing hosting job in July — so many inspirational images,” Deming noted in his first Instagram entry. “And thanks to the ASC for extending this invitation to host this feed for August. I’m hoping to cover many things past, present and future on both familiar and unfamiliar topics. I’m happy to indulge any curiosities. Just submit in comments here! Looking forward to the next month.”

In his subsequent Instagram posts, Deming discussed his camerawork in the features Evil Dead 2 (directed by Sam Raimi) and House Party (directed by Reginald Hudlin) and the series Hotel Room (directed by David Lynch).

As Instagram curators, Deming and Morrison were preceded by Society members including Dan Mindel, Shelly Johnson, Seamus McGarvey, Reed Morano, David Klein and Dana Gonzales.

This rotating stewardship is coordinated by Eric Steelberg, ASC, who finds a new volunteer curator each month to discuss their work, creative process and inspirations.
