ASC International Master Class to Arrive in Mexico City

The next ASC International Master Class session will take place in Mexico City, on October 18-20.

Continuing with the mission of educating the next generations of film technicians, the ASC, in partnership with ARRI, is taking the most important classroom on cinematography to the four corners of the planet, and its next destination is Mexico's capitol.


The ASC International Master Class is a professional-level seminar in which the best cinematographers of the world conduct three days of intensive training.

This class has already been taught in Toronto, Canada; Bogota, Colombia; Beijing, China; and São Paulo, Brazil.


Every day there will be simultaneous translation into Spanish.


Designed for intermediate and advanced photography professionals who already have on-set experience, this class incorporates practices and demonstrations of essential lighting techniques and camera operation, with instructions and workflow analysis of relevant feature films.


This course will allow those who register to perfect their skills and make valuable professional contacts that can boost their careers. The participating ASC members and associates chosen to give this three-day course will offer an invaluable insight into the creative aspects of cinematography.



Programming: 
The event lasts three days. The first day there will be a presentation of the members and their works as well as a welcome reception/dinner. The other two days will be intensive with practical classes in studio with equipment from the best rental companies in Mexico City, with Hollywood standards.


Main topics of the course:  

• Lighting and camera techniques for narrative and advertising projects.  

• Perfect incorporation of visual effects in live action shoots.  

• How to work and adjust the color correction of post-production footage.

Theo Van De Sande, ASC

Theo Van De Sande, ASC is a graduate of the Dutch Film Academy and an award-winning cinematographer and started working professionally while still in school. At an early age, Theo found his passion in still photography. After gaining experience shooting documentaries, he photographed features in the Netherlands including The Girl With the Red Hair, The Pointsman and The Assault.


After moving to Los Angeles, Van De Sande made his U.S. feature debut with indie hit Miracle Mile. His critically acclaimed work includes Blade, Cruel Intentions, Miracle Mile, Crossing Delancey, Once Around, Volcano, Wayne’s World, Out Of Time, Tuesdays With Morrie, Homefront, Big Daddy and Grown Ups.


In 2004, Bill Bennett, ASC became the first commercial cinematographer to be invited to join the ASC. His credits include ads for Ford, Lexus, Coca-Cola, Apple, McDonald’s and Budweiser, among others. Over the years, he has also served as a camera operator on features, including The Black Stallion ReturnsTo Live and Die in L.A.Dantes Peak and Drive.

With Howard Preston, Bennett designed and created the Preston Cinema Systems Micro Force Zoom Control. He is also a longtime adviser to ARRI in the design of its cameras.


Bennett has frequently shared his expertise with professional and aspiring cinematographers through the ASC’s Master Class program and public-outreach events. He was honored with the ASC Presidents Award ion 2016.


The son of a career U.S. Air Force officer, he grew up on a variety of Air Force bases. He graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, with a degree in theater.

Joachim ”JZ” Zell

Also confirmed for this session is ASC associate member Joachim ”JZ” Zell, the VP Technology at EFILM. He has more than 18 years of international postproduction experience. He has designed custom workflows, from on-set through final DI, for features including Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Avengers, The Help and Skyfall, among many others. He also ensures the calibration, matching and accuracy of images across all Deluxe/EFILM facilities worldwide.
