The Removu K1 Self-stabilized 4K Handheld at $429

David Alexander Willis

Self-stabilized, 4K handheld capture for $429.

With built-in 1.5” LCD screen and integrated three-axis gimbal, the Removu K1, available for preorder now, has four-way joystick to control the camera position. The custom 101-degree (f/2.8) lens is wide-angle for reverse shots and to easily capture environment. With brushless DC motors and remote operation over camera and gimbal, there are four stabilization configurations: pan mode, follow mode, motion time-lapse mode and selfie mode, which offers 50cm focus and reverse trigger.

Standard capture is 4K (3840 x 2160) or 2.7K (2704 x 1520) at 30 fps. The camera is also capable of full HD at 30, 60 and 120fps or 720p at 30, 60, 120 and 240fps. The 1/2.3″ CMOS chip offers 12 megapixel still capture, all in a total package weight of only 340g. Using a USB cord, the Removu K1 can still be used for video or photos while charging. Running up to four hours of continuous capture, the Li-ion 2,900 mAh smart battery is also interchangeable.

For audio, there is a built-in microphone as well as 3.5mm (1/8") jack to tether external, battery powered microphones. Supported memory is up to 256 GB Micro SD. (There is an omni-directional microphone planned.) The Removu K1 app for iOS and Android will give remote control over camera positioning as well as basic operations. The Removu K1 was preceded by the Removu S1, a rainproof three-axis gimbal stabilizer with detachable remote for GoPro cameras.

Available at $429, a preorder of the Removu K1 includes smart battery, USB cable and protective pouch. It’s planned to ship by the end of January.
