SmallHD, a Vitec Group company, has announced its first OLED monitor, the 702-OLED. The 7.7" screen combines the color accuracy and contrast ratio of an OLED display with the feature set of SmallHD’s 702-Bright. Able to produce wide-color-gamut color accuracy, it is an effective tool for DITs and directors.

The new monitor displays a 24-bit (8bpc) color depth with a greater-than-160-degree viewing angle. The 1280x800 screen has a density of 191 pixels per inch. The adjustable backlight can provide up to 300 nits of brightness. Input and output ports for both SDI and HDMI are included, with cross conversion of less than a frame of latency. A thumb stick and back button provide the control interface, along with a full-size SD card slot used to save frame grabs and load 3D LUTs.

SmallHD’s Pagebuilder OS control enables any number of user-defined monitoring options. Tools such as vector scopes and waveforms are standard. The exposure-assist system supports both Arri and Spectrum-based false color, with built-in IRE guides for reference. The 2x zebra bars can be utilized to warn when reaching a user-defined brightness level. Up to three fully customizable scopes can be displayed on screen at a time, with highly detailed data analysis. Five custom preset buttons allow quick access to frequently used tools.

Each 702-OLED display is individually color-calibrated before leaving SmallHD. What’s more, 3D LUT calibration is easily installed with advanced color management solutions like Light Illusion’s LightSpace CMS, or SpectraCal’s CalMan. Any 3D LUT can be loaded via SD card using SmallHD’s ColorFlow 3D LUT engine.

SmallHD also recently introduced its first reference-grade monitor, the 1703-P3. The monitor features true 10-bit color processing to deliver more than a billion colors. It covers 100 percent of the DCI-P3 color space, features a 1,500:1 contrast ratio and 179-degree viewing angle, along with SmallHD’s Pagebuilder OS and large toolset.

The 1703-P3 is designed to serve the color display demands of both on-set and postproduction color-grading professionals. The monitor provides for one HDMI and two SDI inputs, as well as one HDMI and two SDI outputs. The fast and intuitive operating system allows ganging of on-screen tools like HD waveform, vectorscope, false color, focus peaking and 2x zebra bars simultaneously, at the user’s preference. A Dual View function allows the user to monitor two input sources at the same time with a side-by-side view.

The 1703-P3 has a bright 450-nit display that supports any LUT workflow through SmallHD’s ColorFlow 3D LUT Engine. This enables 3D LUT support, allowing previously created colorizing look-up tables to be used on-set. LUTs can be applied via the monitor’s full-size SD slot. This information can also be pushed downstream to other monitors.

Additionally, SmallHD has announced a free firmware update that adds an array of new features to increase the functionality of its line of 13", 17", 24" and 32" production monitors, including HDR displays. The free update, as well as a detailed list of the firmware’s new features, is available at www.smallhd.com/community/firmware-production-monitors.
