Rokinon Announces 10th AF Lens for Sony Mirrorless Cameras

The Rokinon AF 35mm F1.8 Full-Frame Compact Wide-Angle Lens for Sony E Mount will begin shipping in November.

Rokinon has announced an AF 35mm F1.8 Full-Frame Compact Wide-Angle Lens for Sony E mount, the company’s 10th autofocus lens engineered for Sony mirrorless cameras.

Weighing 7.4 ounces and measuring 2.5" long, the lens incorporates four special elements (two Aspherical and two High Refractive Index) plus Ultra Multi- Coating. It achieves high-resolution image quality from the center to the edges of the frame, even at F/1.8 full aperture. It also performs as a “standard/normal” focal-length equivalent to 52.5mm with Sony E-mount APS-C sensor models.

The AF motor system employs a stepping motor that is optimized for both phase-detection AF and contrast AF. The Internal Focus design allows for quick, precise autofocus performance with silent focusing while recording video.

Notable features include a custom switch that enables the focusing ring to function either as a manual focus control (Mode 1) or as an aperture control (Mode 2). Additional custom-switch functions are being developed and made available via firmware updates. Fine-tuning focusing parameters and other updates for the AF 35mm F1.8 and other AF Rokinon Sony E-mount lenses are obtained by using a Rokinon Lens Station.

The Rokinon AF 35mm F1.8 Full-Frame Lens for Sony E will be available in November for a list price of $499, which includes a reversible lens hood, lens caps and a custom, fitted case.
