Pond5 Launches Red Collection, Expands DJI Aerial Footage

The stock-footage provider has also introduced corresponding search filters.

Content provider Pond5 has expanded its offerings to include premium footage captured in 8K, 6K, 5K and 4K with Red Digital Cinema cameras and, in cooperation with DJI, aerial footage captured by professional drone pilots around the world.

To help users easily navigate to the new Red collection and the expanded aerial collection, Pond5 has introduced “Red Camera” and “aerial” search filters on its site, which features a library of more than 14 million video clips.

The launch of the Red Collection and search filter gives content creators easy access to cinematic footage in resolutions up to 8K, offering options to zoom in, crop and creatively edit clips while keeping final projects at 4K or higher. “Video production and creation is always evolving with the technology, and offering our buyers the highest-quality and most technologically advanced options for their video projects is a big part of what drives us as a business,” notes Pond5 CEO Jason Teichman. “By working with Red to feature this licensable cinema-quality footage, we’re presenting content creators with some of the best video in the industry, along with the freedom to create work of the highest quality that won’t become easily outdated.”

The initiative also offers Red users the opportunity to repurpose their footage, giving it new life as creative content licensed for productions via the Pond5 marketplace. As Pond5 contributors, they can earn incremental income, setting their own prices and receiving a share of the resulting revenue.

“Creating a special collection exclusively for Red footage on Pond5 is a perfect extension of our own ‘Shot on Red’ campaign, which includes a huge cross-section of major theatrical and broadcast releases,” says Red President Jarred Land. “We’re excited to collaborate with the Pond5 team to help promote artists working with our cameras and provide them with a new way to earn revenue from their work.”

DJI partnered with Pond5 last year to launch the Pond5 DJI Aerial Collection, which initially featured footage captured by U.S.-based, FAA-certified aerial cinematographers. That collection now includes high-quality drone footage captured internationally. “When we launched this program with DJI, we had appropriately high hopes, but the response we received still exceeded our expectations,” says Teichman. “There’s a big time and money investment that goes into achieving the level of experience required to create the professional-quality drone footage buyers demand. Helping these contributors see a return on that investment while providing our buyers with the best drone footage from around the world is important to us.”
