NAB 2018: This new support item offers a safe space for cameras rigged for handheld use.

Matthews Studio Equipment will be showcasing their Dutti Dock at this year’s NAB Show (April 7-12) in Las Vegas. Found in booth C5437 “under the big white Matthews balloon,” the company will debut the $299 easy-set-and-go support for operators who frequently need to rest their camera.

Made of 6061 T6 aircraft-grade aluminum, the Dutti Dock has long mounting slots to adjust the best plate balance. There is also rear cut out for easy access to the plate release, and it includes four removable hooks to hang accessories and tools. An additional cheese plate allows custom rigging.

When paired with a Ronford Baker quick-release plate or similar device, the camera docking sled can convert a medium weight light stand into convenient camera support, as well. As the light stand base is smaller and faster to adjust over a typical fluid head or tripod, it’s also a useful tool for positioning a camera during set lighting, talent blocking, or rehearsals. It includes a removable adapter for Baby Pin or JR Receiver light stands.

“We have all seen camera operators or assistants rest the camera on their knee between takes, to change out a lens, or make a change to the camera,” explains Tyler Phillips, vice president Matthews Grip, in the press release. “We knew there had to be a faster and safer way to do this without having to drag your tripod around everywhere. The Dutti Dock was designed to be a safe home to quickly mount your camera in between shots — and it works with any grip or lighting stand.”

A manufacturer of support equipment for cameras and lighting, Matthews Studio Equipment is nearing its 50th year in business. Alongside two Presidential “E” Awards for outstanding contribution to the U.S. economy, the company has been honored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for Technical Achievement.

At IBC 2017, Matthews announced the My Way Grip interchangeable rigging system and rolling C-Stand KitBag.
