Astera Launches AX2 PixelBar

Available in two sizes, the linear-wash fixture offers wireless control, an onboard battery, individually addressable LEDs and a 21-degree beam.

Astera has released the AX2 PixelBar, a linear-wash fixture with wireless control, an onboard battery, individually addressable LEDs and a 21-degree beam.

As with all Astera products, the AX2 is fully wirelessly controlled and comes complete with a range of rigging tools to provide solutions for a variety of lighting applications and sectors, including concert tours, live events, television productions and installations.

The AX2 PixelBar was developed to meet demand for wall-, backdrop- or surface-washing luminaires. It is available in two sizes, a 1-meter (3.3') fixture with 16 x 10W LEDs and a 50cm (1.6') fixture with 8 x 10W LEDs. It is compatible with Astera’s AX and Titan ranges.

Utilizing Astera’s Titan LED light engine, the AX2 features a high CRI and TCLI and can produce a range of color temperatures from 1,750-20,000K. The digital calibration allows it to precisely reproduce any color or gel filter.

A package of smart feet, hangers and connectable endcaps and an integrated airline track ensure that units can quickly be assembled in numerous ways. The quick-connect system for attaching two or more units is designed to maintain a consistent pixel pitch between conjoined fixtures, and the feet can be loosened to assist in angling a row of AX2s uniformly along its entire length.

With the press of a button on one AX2, all the fixtures in a string of connected units will auto-DMX-address via their integrated IR modules. They communicate with each other, and each fixture knows its position in a “flow set.” They can be controlled via the AsteraApp and built-in Lumen Radio wireless CRMX; a physical five-pin XLR socket and Powercon in/out connectors facilitate a wired option.

The AX2 is IP65 rated for exterior use.

“Ten years ago, we offered a battery-powered LED bar, and it was one of our most popular products at the time,” says Astera Sales Director Sebastian Bückle. “Some people are still using it, and others have been asking us when we will offer another wash fixture. With the AX2, we now have a worthy successor!”

AX2 accessories include barn doors, which can also act as a “glare shield” so you don’t see the LEDs on the wall, only the effect. SuperClamps and a TrackHangar facilitate hanging the fixtures and enable the attachment of safety bonds, while the FlyBar suspends up to 4-meter (13') lengths of connected AX2 PixelBars. There is a quick-release clamp for demounting as well as TrackPins for “gobo heads.” Jump Cable is a hybrid solution to link two AX2s with power and DMX data, and Astera’s integrated charging flight cases are available in four-way and eight-way versions.
