XR Stage, Pixomondo, Creative Technology, Aux Immersive Studio and Hibino VFX tap the Chinese company to create LED volumes.

Chinese company ROE Visual is providing equipment and technical support to five new LED volumes in North America and Asia.

ROE’s latest clients include XR Stage, which opened its largest virtual-production soundstage at Line 204 Studios in Pacoima, Calif., in June; VFX house Pixomondo, which has just launched a new VP studio in Toronto; Creative Technology, which recently opened a VP studio in Las Vegas; Aux Immersive Studio, an XR facility that opened in Singapore late last year, and Hibino VFX Studio, which began servicing productions in Tokyo July 1.

XR Stage’s new LED volume at Line 204 Studios features a 270-degree curved screen comprising 1,020 ROE Visual Black Pearl BP2 LED panels.

“Virtual production aids the creative process and gives you a sandbox the entire team can play in,” says XR Stage CEO Isaac Campos. “It is revolutionizing the film industry, offering unlimited creative possibilities.”

The LED installation at Pixomondo’s new Toronto facility comprises approximately 2,000 Black Pearl BP2 V2 LED panels, and the LED ceiling consists of 750 ROE Visual Carbon Series CB5 LED panels, all running on Brompton processing.

“We decided to go with ROE Visual because their BP2 panels were the only battle-tested LED panels at the time," says Pixomondo Head of Studio Mamoud Rahnama. “We were fortunate to work with productions experimenting with LED volume use at an early stage and see the technology in action early on …. This marked the beginning of our partnership with ROE Visual.

“The key for in-camera LED shoots is achieving the right balance: the right pixel pitch, the right brightness, the right contrast, the right matted material for the masking and the proper refresh rate,” Rahnama adds. “We believe ROE Visual’s BP2 V2 has all the right specs.”

Broadcast/live-events company Creative Technology’s new VP facility in Las Vegas features a large, curved LED wall consisting of ROE Visual Black Onyx BO3, a Black Marble BM4 LED floor and an LED ceiling comprised of Vanish V8.

“Our studios are XR- and camera-tracking ready, using powerful graphics engines to create dynamic content that puts the presenter or musician virtually into any environment,” says Reed Erickson, vice president of digital production at Creative Technology.

The LED volume at Singapore’s Aux Immersive Studio features a 20'x20' LED floor comprised of ROE’s Black Marble BM4 and a 40'x12' LED wall comprised of ROE’s Diamond DM2.6 LED panels. The latter use Brompton LED processing and were calibrated using Brompton’s Hydra system for dynamic calibration and full HDR.

“As Singapore’s first XR studio, we want to create opportunities that allow creatives to tell their stories in a way never done before,” says Aux Media Group CEO Choong Chyi Kei. “Roe Visual’s customer support is second to none, and we are delighted with the results.”

Hibino’s recent open house in Tokyo spotlighted the new ROE Ruby RB1.5F LED panel, which is “changing the game with its Flip Chip LED technology,” says Junichi Imokawa, director and managing executive officer of Hibino Visual Group. “We can’t wait to distribute this stunning LED screen to studios across Japan.”
